Honest Take

Which one fits your situation?

Both apps work. Here’s where each tends to win.

Where RMOPay™ wins

Better for fee-free instant transfers and privacy

  • $0 instant transfers to RMO Bank vs. Venmo’s 1.75% instant fee. If you do 4 instants a month, you’ll save real money.
  • No social feed. Your transactions aren’t broadcast to "friends" by default the way Venmo’s are.
  • Zero-fraud liability on unauthorized transactions. Venmo follows Reg E but the recovery process for scams is famously thin.
  • Built into your bank app — no separate Venmo app to manage, log into, or get notifications from.
Where Venmo® may be better

Better when your friends already use Venmo

  • Massive network effect. ~85M+ Venmo users in the US — everyone you know probably already has it.
  • No bank or membership required. Anyone with a phone can sign up in two minutes.
  • Crypto buy/sell built in. If you want a small crypto position alongside payments, Venmo offers BTC/ETH/LTC/BCH (with fees).
  • Higher weekly send limit ($60K verified personal) than RMOPay personal limits.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How is RMOPay different from Venmo?

Venmo is a standalone payment app owned by PayPal that includes a social feed where transactions are public by default. RMOPay is a member-to-member transfer service built into MyRMO banking, with private transactions, KYC-verified members, and zero-fraud-liability for unauthorized transactions. Venmo’s reach is much broader — anyone with a phone number can sign up; RMOPay requires an active RMO membership.

Does Venmo charge fees for instant transfers?

Yes. Venmo charges 1.75% (minimum $0.25, maximum $25) for instant transfers to a bank account or eligible debit card. Standard 1–3 business day transfers are free. Sending money funded by a credit card carries a 3% fee. RMOPay transfers between RMO Bank accounts are free and instant, with no instant-transfer fee.

Is Venmo’s social feed safe?

Venmo’s social feed shows transactions to friends or publicly by default — only the amount is hidden, but who you paid and any note are visible. You can change your privacy settings to make every transaction private. RMOPay does not have a social feed; all transactions are private to the parties involved.

How do business payments compare?

Venmo for Business charges 1.9% + $0.10 per transaction for personal-account customer payments and 2.29% + $0.09 for business profile receipts. RMOPay business pricing is set at member rates designed to be competitive with — and in many cases lower than — Venmo’s business fees, with the additional benefit of integrated RMO Bank business deposit accounts. Higher daily limits are available on RMO BizMembership.

Can I use both Venmo and RMOPay?

Yes. RMOPay and Venmo are unrelated services that can coexist on your phone. Use Venmo for friends who aren’t RMO members; use RMOPay inside the RMO ecosystem for member-to-member transfers, business payments, and the additional fraud-protection coverage.
